Sergeant Garafalo was a member of the 4th Weather Squadron, Continental Air Command. On December 30, 1951, she was a passenger on a C-47 Skytrain transport enroute from Hamilton AFB to Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, when the aircraft crashed on Lookout Mountain in central Arizona, killing all on board.
