Engineman Third Class Kenney was a member of Commander River Assault Squadron 11, U.S. Navy. On November 1, 1968, he was on watch alongside the Landing Ship Tank USS WESTCHESTER COUNTY (LST-1167), when an explosion on the starboard side of the dock killed him. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
