Aviation Electronics Technician, Third Class Mickelson was a crew member of a torpedo bomber stationed at the Norfolk Naval Air Station. On March 26, 1951 his aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean about 100 miles off Cape Henry, Virginia. His remains were recovered.
